Full Testimony [2nd July 1941] Outside the building were NKVD (N.K.W.D.) had its office, crowds demanding Jewish blood and lives begin to gather. In the afternoon, they start stopping people of Semitic look, and later drag Jewish men out of their houses. They are led to NKVD and beaten along the way, so many of them die on the streets under the hits of bats. The stronger ones, who get there alive, are passed from the hands of civil murderers into hands of German soldiers who decimate them, meaning every tenth of them is executed on the spot [...] On Friday, from the very morning, the mass massacre is still in progress, not only men but also women die. Women are being dragged out of their houses under the cloak of bathing the corpses, i.e. people murdered the previous day, and while performing the task they are beaten to death with steel bats. The "merciful and humanitarian" German soldiers shoot the people beaten unconscious, and other way round, the ones only wounded are being effectively beaten with bats [...] The dead lay on the square, where the slaughter took place, on the streets, and finally under a huge bridge in downtown, from which they were knocked off, to find their death. The Jews want to prepare a demonstrative funeral and bury all the bodies in a mass grave - the authorities forbid it, so they bury a few in one grave, which they have to dig out first, because there are no gravediggers that day.
