Full Testimony Dying in the depths of the Dniester River must have been terrible - with no hope of being saved. Many men capable of fighting were among the victims, and the Bandera followers of the ferry crew were fewer in number. Having more will power and determination would make dying easier. (...) horrifying screams of the wives, mothers and children [of those] being killed must have filled people with such unbearable pain that the most human of human acts was to join them in a mortal embrace in the waters of the river. As an act impossible to comprehend with our flawed minds, it deserves our utmost respect. Nothing could save them from death. Dense line formations were standing on a substantial length of both river banks, below the ferry, and firing shots of accurate fire which hit the bodies of the victims who were surfacing in this deadly whirl. (...) Some bodies of the Jews were long stuck under the roots of the trees growing on the washed-out banks, others anchored in the shallows. Reek was coming from the river.
